What is DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide)

DSIP is a nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) first isolated in 1977 from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits in slow-wave (delta) sleep by Swiss researcher Guido Schoenenberger. As its name suggests, it was initially identified for its apparent ability to induce delta-wave sleep, though subsequent research has shown its effects on sleep are modest and inconsistent. Beyond sleep modulation, it has been studied for potential roles in stress reduction, pain modulation, hormonal regulation (including effects on cortisol and growth hormone), and protection against oxidative stress. Despite decades of research, its precise mechanism of action and physiological receptor remain poorly characterized. It is not FDA-approved and is used primarily in research settings or sold through unregulated channels.
